Reminiscent of French artist Christian Boltanski's Monumenta installation, currently in the Nave of the Grand Palais, Paris, there is Southern California monument simply known as The Pile. The Pile is a mound of thrift-store-worthy garments that covers the back patio of La Bomba Vintage clothing store on 4th Street, in the LBC. The Pile is six feet high--on a good day--and must be scaled, then mined, for its dirt-cheap vintage treasures. If you have the heart to tackle this monster, remove your shoes and start climbing.

What a crazy concept! Next time I am in Long Beach I am going to check this out...
ReplyDeleteIt really is bizarre. If you do visit LB, the 4th street area has some fun vintage clothing and furniture stores.
